Broken Bow’s Shelby Routh: McCurtain County Mom of the Month – Presented by Kiamichi Family Medical Center
By Chris Chandler
Broken Bow cheer sponsor Marissa Walls has a hectic schedule. She teaches at Lukfata Elementary and is the cheer coach for Broken Bow High School’s cheer team, as well as assisting in several other activities.
Walls often needs help with the multiple duties required to transport and coordinate the cheer squad. For that, she is grateful to know Shelby Routh.
“Without Shelby Routh, I could not, and would not, do this. She helped get our summer retreat/workshop weekend together, worked hard for our Spirit Booster fundraiser, and helps me week after week with getting the girls ready.”
Shelby’s daughter Alli is a senior and cheer captain. As a mom, she welcomes the opportunity to be part of the larger Broken Bow school community.
“I love being a Savage cheer mom,” said Routh. “We have an amazing squad and coach. These girls work super hard and I am happy to be able to help out and support them anyway that I can. Our booster club is very active and is always supported by our coach, parents, and our town."
Routh is happy that she’s had the chance to be included in her daughter’s high school experience and takes pride in the community as a whole.
“I’ve been honored to have been able to watch my daughter on this squad for the last four years and couldn’t be more proud of these girls,” said Routh. “I truly believe it takes a village! ‘Once a Savage, always a Savage!’”
For her commitment to her child’s athletics and to the Broken Bow community, Shelby Routh is the McCurtain County Mom of the Month.
