Soper's Jett Rankin - FFA Spotlight Presented By Oklahoma AgCredit
Jett Rankin is senior at Soper High School in southeast Oklahoma. He grew up around horses and cattle, so joining 4H and then FFA was a natural fit for him. He loves to weld and for the past two years has been competing in Ag Mechanics. His first year to compete, he built a shop table and won first place at the Choctaw County Fair as a junior. This past year, with the leadership and guidance from his Ag teacher he built a 12 foot utility trailer with lawn mower ramps. He entered the trailer this year at the Oklahoma Youth Expo's first Ag Mechanics competition and won first in his class and third in his division and made the sale.
Jett also enjoys playing baseball and basketball. He has played both since he was a young boy, only taking a break from basketball for a few years. He moves around on the baseball diamond playing right field, first base and pitcher. Members of community say he's a leader on the field, on the court, and in the halls of his high school.
Working at the same ranch for six years has inspired Jett to begin his own herd. He started fours years ago and has built his herd to 60 head of cattle. “I call my boss, Roy Reedhead, my grandpa. He's someone I look up to for sure,” says Jett proudly. “He's always loved to help me and I've always loved cattle. Working for him drove me to want my own herd. He's helped me out in so many ways.”
Jett loves to ride horses and roping with his friends in his free time. His goals for the future include building up his herd to a size that he can live off them and work there full time.
